Samer Barakat is a Professor of Management Information Systems at Applied Science Private University (ASU), where he previously served as Head of the MIS Department and head of the university's website unit — work that contributed to ASU's rise in the Webometrics University Ranking. He is also Honorary President of the Greater Middle East Research Hub.
He holds a BA from the University of Texas (1987), an MS in Information Systems (1989), and a PhD in Management Information Systems (2009). His current research interests include artificial intelligence governance, data mining, and knowledge systems. He is the founder of Sigma AI Consulting and developer of the Sigma AI Readiness Model, a diagnostic framework for AI governance maturity operationalized across a suite of platforms serving academic, legal, ethics, and NGO sectors. He is the author of numerous journal papers, several book chapters, and the Sigma Series of books on AI governance and ethics, and holds certification as an eCommerce and eBusiness Consultant. He is a member of several professional and scientific societies.
